Intense Pulsed Light Therapy

Beauty therapy clinic ‘sees the light’ when it comes to removing unwanted hair.

Quickly, safely and virtually without pain Multi-Lux Super Intense Pulsed Light (SIPL) treatment is the new alternative to laser treatment. Margaret Walsh, owner of Face & Body, discovered Intense Pulsed Light Treatments at the Cidesco Global Beauty Therapy Conference in Adelaide and has become very focused on providing this for her clients at her beauty therapy business in Titirangi. Margaret is so impressed with the results she has seen she even predicts SIPL will be the most significant beauty treatment within the next decade.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy ( IPL ) by Face & Body SIPL works to reduce hair growth, treat uneven skin pigmentation and broken capillaries of the face and legs. Multi-Lux versatility means it can also be used to reduce signs of ageing.

So how exactly does it work?

When used for hair removal the light causes the hair to heat, the heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. Most hair destroyed with this system will not grow back.

“It is totally safe and non-invasive and is several times faster than other light-based hair removal systems. Traditional waxing treatments, which essentially rip the hair from the skin, can be quite painful. Most people find Intense Pulsed Light to be significantly more comfortable,” explains Margaret.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy ( IPL ) by Face & Body SIPL can also be used to treat a wide range of skin problems to improve texture and complexion. Age spots (sun induced freckles), benign brown pigments or spots and broken capillaries of the face and leg as well as birthmarks and vascular lesions respond well to treatment.

One of the more exciting aspects of the machine is photo rejuvenation – a treatment, which stimulates fibroblast cells to produce new collagen giving the skin a youthful, fresher look. Compared to laser treatments, which can be harsh and require wound healing, SIPL causes only a temporary reddening that lasts a few hours.

So what happens during a treatment?

“After an initial preparation the Face & Body consultant will move a wand-like hand piece over the client’s skin. The hand piece emits the light that disables the hair follicles and/or breaks down the pigment in the skin blemishes. Most people perceive the light as a gentle ‘snapping’ sensation,” explains Margaret.

Q. What's the difference between lasers and SIPL?

A. SIPL systems and lasers are very similar and remove hair in basically the same way. However, SIPL uses technology that is several times faster than lasers, making it suitable for even the busiest persons' schedule.
